Guangzhou University Delegation Visits University of Quebec at Montreal

A Guangzhou University delegation led by Vice President and Professor Wu, Kaijun paid an official visit to University of Quebec at Montreal (UQAM), Canada, on October 2, 2019. The delegation, which also included Professor Zhang Chunliang, Dean of the School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, Professor Qian Lexiang, Associate Dean of the School of Geographic Science and Geology, and Dr. Ke Zhicheng, Deputy Director of the International Office were warmly received by UQAM’s Executive Vice Rector and Professor Jean-Christian Pleau and Mr. Lei Cheng who is the Deputy-Director of the International Department at its downtown campus.

Vice President and Professor Wu exchanged ideas and thoughts on strengthening collaboration between the two universities and also extended Guangzhou University’s willingness to foster bilateral or multilateral cooperation among the Alliance of Guangzhou International Sister-City Universities (GISU). Vice President and Professor Pleau gladly accepted his colleague’s suggestion and reiterated UQAM’s long-term strategic policy of developing a strong relationship with Guangzhou University. He also emphasized the importance that the two universities should closely work together for mutually beneficial cooperation which sustains the city’s development and serves the municipality and local community in which they are located. Vice President and  Professor Wu also briefed everyone on the preparation work by Guangzhou University for a successful GISU 2019 Annual Conference and concurrent symposiums on the Innovation and Adoption of International Tourism jointly organized by their scholars. Vice President and Professor Pleau voiced his support and wishes for a successful GISU Annual Conference.

The Alliance of Guangzhou International Sister-City Universities (GISU) was initiated by Guangzhou University and its global partners which include UQAM, Western Sydney University, University of Padova, Linkoping University, Tampere University, and the University of Coimbra as an international joint project. Inaugurated on December 7, 2018, GISU is governed according to the Charter and its daily operations are run by the Secretariat Office located at Guangzhou University, China.
