Guangzhou University has spared no efforts in pursuing SciTech innovation and academic excellence while actively serving national strategies in meeting the needs of economicand social development. In 2017 and 2018, the university consecutively won the national key R&D plan projects ofthe 13th "Five-Year Plan". In 2018, the university won 144 national natural science projects and 30 national social science projects which ranked 73rd and 27th respectively across the nation. In addition, a total of 385 patents were granted. There are 3 national-level scientific research platforms (including breeding bases), 51 provincial-level research platforms, one national-level "2011 Synergy In novation Center" based in the Guangdong Province, one provincial-levelsynergy innovation center in the Guangdong Province, and one synergy innovation and development center.
Guangzhou University since 2015 has won one first place prize of National Science and Technology Progress Awards, two second place prizes of National Science and Technology Progress Award, one China Patent Excellence Award, and two third place prizes of Scientific Research Achievement Awards (Humanities and Social Sciences) of Institution of Higher Education. In recent years, 8 academic papers have been published in Social Sciences which is the most authoritative academic journal in the field of humanities and social sciences in China. In 2018, more research results were published by university faculty in leading international journals to include Nature Plants, Nature Communications, and the Angewandte Chemie Interactional Edition.
