From February 25th to 27th, the 7th Asia-Oceania Regional Integrated Earth Observation Program (AOGEO) International Conference was held in Kunming, Yunnan Province. More than 80 representatives from 14 countries including Japan, Australia, South Korea, Cambodia, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Laos, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Singapore, and France attended the event on-site, and over 7,900 representatives participated in the online communication and interaction through the live broadcast platform.
The 7th AOGEO International Conference Kicked off in Kunming on 25 February 2025
The conference was hosted by the China Science and Technology Exchange Center (GEO China Secretariat of the Group on Earth Observations), and co-organized by the Aerospace Information Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (Aerospace Information Institute for short) and Yunnan Normal University. Professor Gu Xingfa from Guangzhou University served as the conference chair.
Themed on Technological Progress and Actions of the Asia-Oceania Regional Integrated Earth Observation Program in the Era of Earth Intelligence, the conference aims to encourage academic institutions and international organizations in the Asia-Oceania region to strengthen cooperation under the GEO's third decade strategic plan, promote academic exchanges in the field of Earth intelligence in the Asia-Oceania region, continue to promote the sharing of Earth observation data, knowledge services and capacity building, and build a regional academic exchange and scientific and technological cooperation platform featuring extensive consultation, joint contribution and shared benefits.
Professor Gu Xingfa, the Chinese co-lead of AOGEO presided over the Coordination Board Meeting
On February 27th, Professor Gu Xingfa chaired the AOGEO Coordination Board meeting, summarized the achievements and experiences of this conference, examined and approved the consensus document of the 7th AOGEO International Conference, and presided over the negotiation on the holding of the 8th AOGEO International Conference.
AOGEO has long actively responded to the four priority development items of GEO, and continuously promoted the capacity development and cooperation network construction in the integrated priority demonstration areas. Based on the concept of a community with a shared future for mankind and the principles of equality, diversity and inclusiveness (EDI), with a high sense of responsibility and mission, China has closely cooperated with all sectors of GEO to jointly promote academic exchanges in the field of Earth intelligence in the Asia-Oceania region, the sharing of Earth observation data, knowledge services and capacity building, and build a regional academic exchange and scientific and technological cooperation platform featuring extensive consultation, joint contribution and shared benefits.
