[04-02] Assembly Meeting and Board Meeting of the Confucius Institute at the University of Padova Hosted

On March 28, the assembly meeting and council meeting of the Confucius Institute at the University of Padova were hosted online. Professor Qu Shaobing, Chairman of Guangzhou University(GZHU) Council, and Professor Daniela Mapelli, President of the University of Padova attended the meetings.

In the assembly meeting, Professor Qu Shaobing and Professor Daniela Mapelli discussed about the financial report of 2021 and financial budget of 2022. All of the participants voted for and approved the appointment of the new council member. President Daniela Mapelli recognized the work of the Confucius Institute and expressed great confidence for its future development as well as cooperation between the two universities.

In council meeting, Professor Giorgio Picci introduced work of the Confucius Institute in 2021. In addition to routine teaching and activities, the Confucius Institute also organized 486 students to take the HSK test, with a pass rate of 88.6%, and won the title of HSK Excellent Test Center given by China-Foreign Language Center of the Ministry of Education once again. Giulia Poli, a 17-year-old student from the Confucius Classroom, passed the HSK Level III exam with full marks last June. In July 2021, he won the title in the final of the 14th "Chinese Bridge" Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign Middle School Students - Italy and San Marino Competition Zone, and he won the Best Writing and Best Talent Award at the same time. In addition, teaching quality of martial arts in Confucius Institute has reached a new high. The "Chinese+Martial Arts" teaching based on the Martial Arts Teaching Center of Confucius Institute was approved by the Italian Ministry of Education. The CI planned to open a Chinese credit course in the Center in the academic year of 2022 to 2023, with more than 400 registered students throughout the year. At the Italian Martial Arts Championship held at the end of last year, the young player team of the Center won three gold medals, four silver medals and eight bronze medals.

Professor Qu expressed his appreciation for the work of the faculty of the Confucius Institute and the measures taken by the University of Padova in promoting the development of the Confucius Institute. He pointed out that 2021 is the first year for the Confucius Institute to implement the new mechanism after the transformation. The work has been carried out smoothly under concerted efforts of the two universities. It is hoped that the two universities will continue to deepen cooperation in the future.
