On the afternoon of November 12, Ouyang Qian, secretary of the CPC Guangzhou University Committee and chairman of the university council, met with Jiri Korec, the Mayor of Zlín, Czech Republic, and his delegation, who were visiting Guangzhou for friendly exchanges. Ouyang Qian welcomed Mayor Korec and his delegation on behalf of the university and introduced the history of Guangzhou University, as well as the recent emphasis on high-quality development through educational openness. Ouyang pointed out that this year marks the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China and the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and the Czech Republic. The people of both countries have a long history of friendship and frequent exchanges. It is the duty of universities in both countries to inherit and promote the traditional friendship and to find effective paths for innovative development of higher education cooperation in the context of the new era. Guangzhou University values its exchanges and cooperation with Czech universities and hopes to further promote joint research and talent development with Thomas Bata University in fields such as materials science, chemical engineering, and management. Ouyang expressed a warm welcome for Czech students to study and exchange at Guangzhou University.
Mayor Korec thanked Guangzhou University for its warm reception and provided an overview of Zlín and its key economic sectors. He emphasized that Zlín is actively seeking cooperation with Guangzhou, valuing the exploration of economic and cultural exchanges in key areas, and encouraging and supporting local universities to collaborate with Guangzhou University, offering necessary support and assistance.
Zlín is located in the southeastern part of the Czech Republic along the Dřevnice River and serves as the capital of Zlín Region. The city has a developed mechanical manufacturing industry and has actively attracted domestic and foreign investment in recent years in sectors such as automotive parts, metal processing, and furniture manufacturing. Zlín is also home to Evektor, the largest general aircraft manufacturer in the Czech Republic.
