The article entitled "Stepwise selection on homeologous PRR genes controlling flowering and maturity during soybean domestication" written by the research team led by Professor Kong Fanjiang and Liu Baohui from Molecular Genetics and Evolution Innovation Research Center of Guangzhou University(GZHU) was recognized as one of China's one hundred most influential international academic papers in 2020.
The article shows that Tof12-dependent acceleration of maturity accompanied a reduction in dormancy and seed dispersal during soybean domestication, possibly predisposing the incipient crop to latitudinal expansion. Better understanding of this early phase of crop evolution will help to identify functional variation lost during domestication and exploit its potential for future crop improvement.
