Guangzhou University and Salem State University co-organized an international seminar with the theme of towards Guangzhou: from early stage Sino-US trade to new pattern Sino-US relation in Salem State University
Decision of the CCCPC on Some Major Issues Concerning Comprehensively Deepening the Reform laid out the strategic vision to “build a Silk Road Economic Belt and a Maritime Silk Road, so as to form a new pattern of all-round opening”. The seminar focuses on the origin of Sino-US Maritime Silk Road — trade between the city of Salem and Guangzhou, aiming at reviewing and carrying forward the spirit of Maritime Silk Road and accelerating the application of the Maritime Silk Road of Guangzhou as world cultural heritage as well as the facilitating the study on the development of Guangzhou.
In their remarks at the opening ceremony, Dr. Mupeisha, Deputy President of Salem State University and Alisa, Deputy Curator of Peabody Essex Museum reviewed the Sino-US trade and cultural connection which started right from Salem and highly recognized for traditional friendship between China and US. On behalf of the president of Guangzhou University, Director of Department of Social Sciences shared the history and development of Guangzhou University, and expressed his hope to strengthen cooperation between Salem and Guangzhou University. Both parties agree to deepen academic exchanges to facilitate the new Sino-US relationship.
Representatives from Sun Yat-Sen University, Jinan University and Guangdong Television Station, Cantonese Culture Association, Guangzhou Oriental Museum had fruitful discussions on the topic “from early stage Sino-US trade to new pattern Sino-US relation”. They reviewed the trade and culture communication between China and United States and discuss the research on pushing forward the construction of Maritime Silk Road in the 21st century with the deepening of the reform in China.
