Guangzhou University, May 30, 2014:Recently, the Education Department of Guangdong Province has released the list of the cultivation and construction planning project of the first 17 national “2011 Collaborative Innovation Centers” in Guangdong province. “Damping Control and Disaster Prevention Engineering Collaborative Innovation Center” of Guangzhou University is on the list, which marks the impressive achievements in invigorating the university through innovation. This center and “Guangzhou University Collaborative Innovation Development Center” had been identified as the Provincial Collaborative Innovation (Development) Centers earlier before.
“Damping Control and Disaster Prevention Engineering Collaborative Innovation Center”, initiated by GU and led by Academician Zhou Fulin, has been collaborating with the authorities in the field such as Institute of Engineering Mechanics of China Earthquake Administration, Xi‘an University of Architecture and Technology and Guangdong Earthquake Administration in the research on the mechanism of the causes of disasters, seismic and wind resistant design methods, disaster control theories and applications based on public demands and practical projects. It strives to develop a world leading theory and application system of disaster prevention and mitigation in order to solve the major problems in this field. The center has made positive contributions to the construction of a science and technology transformation center in damping control and structure security industry and to the improvement of our research and development capabilities of civil engineering original techniques as well as the international competitiveness of China’s engineering disaster prevention and mitigation industry.
It is learned that Guangdong Province will especially support the identified provincial collaborative innovation centers on the resource allocations like graduate students recruitment, excellent talents plan and government funded overseas study. Referring to the eligible national cultivation and construction planning projects, the provincial government will strengthen the guidance and supervision and provide special funds for the outstanding projects in accordance with the general ideas in the cultivation and construction of the national “2011 Collaborative Innovation Centers”, that is, staging planning, special cultivation, preferential recommendation and dynamic adjustment.
