Guangzhou University, 8th May:GU held the 6th Conference of the Third Faculty & Staff Committee and Labor Union Representatives. Professor Yu Jianshe, president of GU delivered the work report of GU in 2011, and Ms. Chen Shaomei, Chairwoman of Labor Union of GU delivered the work report of the Labor Union and faculty & staff commitee in 2011. In his work report, Professor Yu Jianshe emphasized that facing the new trend and tasks, GU should take the initiative to maintain its competiveness and seek support by making contributions. Therefore, with the goal of building "a first-class university in China and famous university in the world", GU shall seize the opportunities and strive for innovation to make active contribution to the process of building Guangzhou into a central city in China, the "best city" in Guangdong and a world-famous city with rich culture.
137 representatives of faculty and staff attended the conference, which was chaired by Mr. Liu Qiang, the vice chairman of Labor Union of GU.
In his work report, Professor Yu Jianshe pointed out that 2011 was the first year GU carries out its 12th Five Year Plan. With the essential task of building "a first-class university in China and famous university in the world", GU has made impressive results in education, research, discipline development and social service, maintaining a good momentum in all aspects. its major achievements include: 1. with appropriate budget plans, the efficiency of fund using is improving continuously; 2. education level and the quality of students are rising continuously; 3. the number of major R&D projects and platforms are witnessing a historical break-through; 4. Discipline development and the development of programs leading to degrees are making new progress; 5. the development of personnel mechanism and a team of high-level talents is making impressive progress; 6. the area of social service has been further expanded; 7. international cooperation and exchanges are breaking new ground; 8. subordinate units and independent colleges have achieved impressive results; 9. internal management is improving continuously.
Professor Yu Jianshe also mentioned the seven aspects of work GU will focus on in the year 2012: continue to put education as GU’s top priority, deepen education reform, and comprehensively improve education quality; continue to advocate the strategy of building a strong university through talents, and build a team of high-level talents; continue to foster campus culture, and strengthen the soft power of university development; continue to push forward the internationalization of GU; actively mobile all the resources for the development of GU; execute the budget plan of 2012, and improve the returns of college investment. Pro. Yu Jianshe stressed that with the goal of building "a first-class university in China and famous university in the world", GU shall seize the opportunities and strive for innovation to make active contribution to the process of building Guangzhou into a central city in China, the "best city" in Guangdong and a world-famous city with rich culture.
In the report of work of labor union and faculty and staff committee, Ms. Chen Shaomei summarized the achievement of the past year: 1. protect the lawful right of faculty and staff, and regulate democratic management. 2. Improve the comprehensive quality of teachers and build a harmonious campus. 3. Strengthen the construction of the labor union and improve its capabilities, including strengthening its role as the family of faculty and staff, improve its service; organize seminars and workshops and improve its organization; facilitate distinctive[ activities and improve innovation and brand awareness. 4. Organize activities of various kinds, and pay attention to the actual effect of these activities, including organizing cultural activities to build a platform of exchanges for young teachers and improving the health resort scheme of faculty and staff, and further facilitating the activities of home visiting and "warmth bringing", etc.
Ms. Chen Shaomei also said that with greater passion and stronger competence, the cadres of the labor union at all levels and representatives of faculty and staff should continue to serve the staff and staff with their heart and soul.
