Recently, the Confucius Institute at Wesleyan College (CIWC) organized Sun Yat-sen Pictures Memorial Exhibition and was invited to host special activities of Chinese cultural in Retired Persons (AARP) in Houston, Georgia (Houston County, GA).
On March 21, Nicholas J. Stenech, Dean of CIWC declared that the photos exhibition memorizing Sun Yat-Sen lasting for one month was open. Hosted by CIWC, this photos exhibition introduced some historical facts and contributions of Sun Yat-Sen in Chinese and English versions. The photos about Mrs. Song Qingling’s lives of learning in Wesleyan College, Japan and China were also displayed.
In order to help the native citizens understand history of China’s revolutions, CIWC also invited Mrs. Lani Wong, President of National Association of Chinese-Americans, to give a keynote speech concerning the connection of her family and revolutions launched by Sun Yat-sen. The speech attracted participation by CIWC faculty members, students and nearby citizens, who said that the exhibition and speech deepened their understanding about China’s revolution as well as the hard-won prosperity and stability of China’s society.
On the morning of March 22, at the invitation of AARP, CIWC hosted Chinese special cultural activities and introduced Chinese culture to the participating members.
The activities were divided into three parts. In the first part, Dean Nicholas explained construction and operation of CIWC. He expressed his appreciation for the support given by Hanban, Guangzhou University and Wesleyan College. His speech aroused participants’ interests to Chinese culture and language. Then CIWC faculty members and students sang, dance and played Guzheng, which was highly acclaimed by the audiences.
