Guangzhou University, Apr. 15th, 2012:The fifth Guangdong University Students Mechanical Innovative Design Competition, organized by Guangdong Education Bureau and co-organized by GU, is held in the gymnasium of GU. Professor Deng Chengming, President Assistant of GU delivered Opening remarks in the opening ceremony.

The objectives of the competition is to encourage the institutions of Higher Education to attach great importance to the ability of innovation, comprehensive design and team-work of university students; enhance the training of their practical skills; improve their innovation, mechanical design and skills in real situations; encourage university students to participate in the extra-curriculum activities and create opportunites for talented studets to stand out.

The theme of this competition is "Happy Life- Today & Tomorrow"; the main content is "Design and Making of Machines for Leisure and Entertainment and Home use". All-together 32 universities in Guangdong including South China University of Technology, South China Agricultural University, Guangdong University of Technology, Shenzhen University, Guangzhou University have actively participated in the competition. More number of universities participated and pieces of work submitted in this year's competition than any others in the history, with 161 pieces of work submitted.

After the internal selection, GU has recommended 12 pieces of design and has won 2 First-prize, 3 Second-prize and 7 Third-prize, realizing a historical breakthrough in terms of pieces of design submitted and awards won.
