Guangzhou University, April 11, 2014:Recently, five teams composed of 15 students from the school of Mathematics and Information Science, Civil Engineering, Physics and Electronic Engineering and Electrical Engineering, won one first prize and four second prizes in the 2014 American International Mathematical Modeling Competition (College Level), the greatest achievement since 2012. Li Tao, Hung Dongliang, Tang Guojun jointly attained the first prize.
It is known that the Competition is an annual world-wide event, extending far-reaching influence to students & teachers interested in mathematics. This intellectual contest is sponsored by the American National Science Foundation and American Mathematics Application Association, and co-organized by American Operation Research Society, American Industry & Applied Mathematics Society, American Mathematics Association. In the duration of contention, each team (made up of three contestants) are reqired to propose one mathematical model within four days and draft a paper based on the given model, covering the process of construction & resolution, test & enhancement, strength & weakness, and plausible application.
Under the guidance of Mr. Zhong Yubin, Qin Jian, Peng Junhao, our four teams demonstrated excellence in problem-solving, originality, team spirit and rationality in reasoning which invoked unanimous recognition.
