This year’s Festival is hosted by GU, with the Communist Youth League Committee of Guangdong Province, Guangdong Provincial Department of Education, Guangdong Provincial Department of Culture and Guangdong Provincial Federation of Students as co-organizers, to further exert the function of campus culture in education and moral cultivation and to cohere and guide students in the construction of Happy Guangdong and a powerful cultural province. Participants to the grand event included Secretary of Provincial League Committee Zeng Yingru, Secretary of the Party Committee of GU Yi Zuoyong, Deputy Director General of Guangdong Provincial Department of Culture Chen Hang, Deputy Secretary of Provincial League Committee Chi Zhixiong and Deputy Secretary of the Party of GU and Secretary of the Discipline Inspection Commission Zhang Qiang. Leaders and guests from the Propaganda Department of Provincial Party Committee, the Provincial Communist Youth League, the Provincial Federation, the Provincial Cultural Museum, Guangdong TV Station and GF Securities and over 20 universities of the province as well as more than 600 university students also attended the gala.

It is said that this session of the festival is renamed as “Guangdong Campus Culture and Art Festival for College and Secondary Vocational School Students” to include 3.5 million students in about 800 universities and secondary vocational and technical schools. Moreover, “to host competitions with open arms”, the organizers apply innovative media to this year’s festival, during which students can sign up for various activities via Wechat by scanning the two-dimension codes on their exhibition stands with cell phones. This innovation intrigued the leaders and guests at the opening ceremony, who took out their cell phones and scaned the codes enthusiastically to experience “participation via Wechat”.

The leaders present also expressed their anticipation for the event. Secretary of Provincial Committee Zeng Yingru proposed that the schools continue to pay close attention to the development of culture and knowledge. School Party secretary Yi Zuoyong shared music dreams with students and encouraged them to “spread music and energy of youth to every comer of the Xiaoguwei Island”. Deputy director Chen Hang in Provincial Department of Culture kindly said that the students should enjoy the youth and showcase their talents.

During the intermission, Zeng Yingru, Yi Zuoyong and other leaders went on the stage and participated in the activity of “Let the Dreams Fly” with the students. They attached their wish cards to the balloons and watched them fly into the sky. After the ceremony, the leaders also visited Philatelic Association and Folk Art Association, the two excellent culture and art associations of our university and had a heart-to-heart talk with the key members. Knowing that the Folk Art Association was the only students’ association on Cantonese opera in Guangdong province and that the Philatelic Association was the only demonstration base of national youth stamp collection in colleges and universities of Guangdong province, they spoke highly of the students for their efforts in pursuing art and inheriting traditional culture.

The dance association and the cheer leaders from our university gave a wonderful performance at the ceremony with excellent art performance troups from Guangdong University of Foreign Studies and South China Normal University as well other universities. The organizers also invited 18 school associations from various colleges and universities and 18 business groups from social original handicrafts I-Mart to exhibit and promote themselves. Five associations of our university including Green Power Association, Philatelic Association, Folk Art Association, DIY Handicrafts Association and Wushu Association participated in the exhibition.

According to the supervisors of the festival, the theme of this session is “Strive for Chinese Dream” and there are 10 activities about three sub-themes: “Find the Dream, Driven by Faith,”, “Pursue the Dream, Accompanied by Beauty” and “Realize the Dream, Supported by Art”.
