From 2016 to 2018, GZHU has recruited 425 high level talents and teachers with PhD degrees with its teaching staff increased by 25 percent. The newly recruited talents are commensurate with the total sum of that in the last ten years. Among them, total figure of leading talents has increased by three times.
GZHU now has 13 academicians, among which 7 are dually-employed academicians, and 12 experts who have been accepted into The National Recruitment Program of Global Experts. GZHU has six Yangtze River Scholars and 16 teachers who have won the “National Outstanding Youth Award” or the “Scientific Fund for Excellent Youth ”.
In 2017, GZHU teachers' papers accepted by the SCI and SSCI increased 64 percent and the number of that in the first half of 2018 is already as much as that in 2017.
In 2017, there were 22 newly established platforms which integrated industry, education and research. The graduates registered a first-time employment rate of 96 percent, with 89 percent of them finding jobs in the Pearl River Delta. In the last three years, Guangzhou University has incubated 68 student entrepreneurial teams and registered 42 innovative companies.
In 2018, GZHU was newly granted with five first level discipline Programs for Doctoral Degrees and nine first level discipline programs for Master’s Degrees.
For many years, Guangzhou University has developed a great number of talented alumni, many of whom have worked on both national and provincial programs which have brought about great social and economic benefit. In recent years, under the support of the Guangzhou Municipal Government, Guangzhou University has strongly leaped forward in its development of building a higher education institution at the highest caliber in China and recognized throughout the world. GZHU today has become a comprehensive university with special geographical advantages, distinct educational models, notable comprehensive strength and strong momentum for development.
Named after Guangzhou, one of the nation's major economic hubs, Guangzhou University, during the course of pursuing the next wave of major advance, adheres to concepts such as building competency, being innovation-driven, characterized by openess development. In doing so, GZHU will build itself into a leading comprehensive and research-oriented metropolitan university serving both Guangzhou city and the Greater Bay Area.
Guangzhou University’s goals for development over the next couple of decades include:
1. By 2020, becoming comprehensive university ranking fifth among all higher institutions in Guangdong province, ranking among the top 100 in the whole country, and becoming a comprehensive urban research-oriented university that leading higher institutions.
2. By 2025, becoming a leading comprehensive research-based university in China with disciplinary, urban and Chinese characteristics.
3. By 2050, becoming a leading comprehensive research-based university in the world.In addition, Guangzhou University will integrate its development into Guangzhou City’s reputation as an international city under the “belt and road” strategy and promote collaboration with approximately 200 universities across the world. The university plans to send over 700 students to study abroad through exchange and cooperative relationships with more than 200 universities and institutions from 33 countries and regions all around the world. GZHU admits over 700 overseas students annually. In addition, GZHU is now preparing to establish the Belt and Road Academy for International Education and the Alliance of Guangzhou International Sister-city Universities (GISU).
