On September 27, to mark the 20th anniversary of the founding of Confucius Institutes, the Chinese International Education Foundation held a grand celebration of "Confucius Institute Day" in Beijing. The event was attended by more than 500 people including Yang Wei, chairman of the foundation and academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, representatives from relevant Chinese government departments, diplomats from various countries in China, representatives from international language promotion organizations, Confucius Institute directors, representatives from Chinese and foreign partner organizations, experts, and corporate partners.
At the celebration, the foundation honored 33 directors of Confucius Institutes from both China and abroad who have been in office for more than 10 years and have been unanimously recognized by their partner organizations. Professor Giorgio Picci, the director of the Confucius Institute at the University of Padova, received this honor.
