Our Students Win Three Meritorious Awards in 2015 MCM/ICM

Recently, the results of 2015 MCM/ICM (Mathematical Contest in Modeling /Interdisciplinary Contest in Modeling) were announced. Our university has three Meritorious Winners, two Honorable Mention winners and two Successful Participant winners, ranking ahead among the universities and colleges nationally.

It is known that the contest (http://www.comap.com) is co- host by the Natural Science Foundation of the US and the American Mathematics Application Association with the assistance from institutions including the American Operational Research Association, the American Industrial and Applied Mathematics Association and the American Mathematics Association. It has become one of the most prestigious international contests for college students. It is held annually, and students participate in teams. Each team is required to submit a solution to a certain problem and to write a paper on the clarification of the problem, the explanation and justification of their assumption, the introduction of the model design, model testing and sensitivity analysis and the discussion of weakness and strength and its application.

Eight teams of our university participated in the contest this year, consisting of 24 students from the School of Mathematics and Information Sciences, the School of Civil Engineering, the School of Economics and Statistics, and the School of Mechanics and Electrical Engineering. Under the guidance of the teachers including Zhong Yubin, Qin Jian, Peng Junhao and Chen Rongxi, six teams stood out and became winners.
