The 5th Chinese Classic Literature Education Forum Held in GU

Guangzhou University, Nov.26, 2011:With thousands of students chantingThe Great Learning,one ofThe Four Booksin Chinese ancient classic literature, the 5thChinese Classic Literature Education Forum Held unveils its curtain on the morning of November 26.

The forum is co-hosted by China Publishing Bureau and GU under the supervision of Chinese Language Application Management Department of National Education Bureau. The star-studded forum has the following list of honorable participants: Gu Qing, Chief Deputy Editor of China Publishing Bureau; Guo Qijia, professor of Peking University and Vice Chairman of China Confucius Academy; Zhang Yi, Director of Guangdong Chinese Language Office; Han Shumei, Deputy Director of Shandong Chinese Language Office; Wang Xuewu, Deputy Director of Anhui Chinese Language Office; Chen Qin, pioneer of Chinese Classic Literature Reading Campaign; Qu Shaobin, Director of Guangzhou Education Bureau and former vice president of GU; Yi Zuoyong, Party Secretary General of GU; as well as heads of local education bureaus from 18 provinces and cities in China, heads of primary, secondary schools and higher education institutions, and students and faculties from GZHU. The opening ceremony of the forum is chaired by Zhu Anshun, Chief Deputy Editor of China Publishing Bureau and Director of Chinese Classic Literature Promotion Center.

Gu Qing

Gu Qing, Chief Deputy Editor of China Publishing Bureau, remarks on the opening speech, “To rejuvenate China needs to cultivate Chinese culture, in which classic literature plays an indispensable role, as Chinese people can gain wisdom and confidence from the classic works.” China Publishing Bureau will celebrate its 100thanniversary, and it has been fully committed to promoting Chinese education, civilization and culture. It wishes to take the opportunity of hosting the forum to let every Chinese gain faith, peace, sense of cohesion and high moral standard from the classic literature.

Zhang Yi

Zhang Yi, Director of Guangdong Chinese Language Office, proposes that reading Chinese classic literature is an important way to promote Chinese mandarin, to regulate Chinese written language, to enhance the national application of the language, as well as a key component to foster Chinese tradition and culture and to deliver patriotic education. In response, GU has been promoting reading Chinese classic literature since 2009 and has gained good results.

Yi Zuoyong

Yi Zuoyong, Party Secretary General of GU, addresses the audience to welcome them and introduce the GU’s promotion of classic literature. According to Yi, GU is the national pilot university for classic literature reading, and it organizes various activities to engage students to learn and appreciate classic works, such as the Ancient Poetry Recital Contest, Chinese Classic Literature Recital Contest, and Dragon Boat Festival Classic Literature Reading Gala. Consequently, students learn the classic works with great passion, thus deepening their understanding to Chinese culture and tradition.

During the interview, Director of Guangzhou Education Bureau and former vice president of GU shares his experience in promoting Chinese classic literature on campus. As a prime move, he stresses that reading Chinese classic works can let students learn more about Chinese traditional culture and educate them a sense of duty for the nation.

Qu Shaobing

There are keynote speeches given by distinguished scholars and experts on theThe Four Books,includingThe Great LearningandThe Doctrine of the Mean. Apart from speeches and presentation, a demonstration class on the recital approaches to the classic literature is offered by Chen Qin, pioneer of Chinese Classic Literature Reading Campaign, and an art performance gala is on show on the night of Nov 26.
