In the afternoon of March 16, our university signed a cooperation agreement with National Astronomical Observatories of China (NAOC), the two sides would jointly run the astronomical research center and the operation of infrared/optical telescope. Yu Jianshe, Party secretary of Guangzhou University, Ji Peiwen and Dong Guoxuan, deputy directors for mathematical division of National Natural Science Foundation, Zhao Gang, party secretary of NAOC witnessed the whole process. Yu Xinwei, on behalf of Guangzhou university, and Yan Jun, representing NAOC signed the document.


It is understood that the original 1.26 m infrared telescope in Xinglong Observatory based will be transformed tot China's first simultaneous infrared and optical research-grade telescopes under the guidance of two sides. According to the cooperation agreement, the transformed telescope would name after "National Observatory - Guangzhou University infrared / optical telescope", the prospective institution after "National Observatory - Guangzhou University Joint Research Center for Astronomy"to mark this event.
Mr. Yu Jianshe commented thatGuangzhouUniversity had academic strength in astronomy , while NAOC enjoyed natural privilege in technology force, equipment, and research platform, this move would extend far-reaching influence to our talent cultivation and astronomic research. Zhao Gang expressed the hope that through this cooperation, astronomical observation research in our country would be uplifted to a higher level.
Mr. JI Pei Wen concluded that the joint work of two research institutions can further enhance the level of national astronomic research and actual astronomical observation capabilities, accelerate scientific research output, in terms of breadth and depth, and cultivate more outstanding young promising scholars.
