Vice president Deng Chengming led a delegation to visit Michigan State University (MSU) to have a better understanding on the development and experiences of the education and research on disciplines including Statistics, Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, and Teacher Education. The two sides reached an initial agreement on collaboration on teaching and scientific research, students’ joint-supervision and students and faculty exchange.
During the visit, delegates held a meeting with Professor Thomas C. Voice, Deputy Dean of School of Engineering, and Professor Richard C. Schwartz, Deputy Dean of School of Science, in which they discussed about offering Actuary courses in GZHU. The two universities reached a consensus on expanding the number of students participating in “2+2 program”, sending GZHU teachers to MSU for further studies and selecting experienced professors to teach Actuary courses in GZHU.
It should be noted that founded in 1855, MSU was the first university established in accordance with theLand Grant Actand became an internationally prestigious university. In 2013, GZHU signed cooperation agreement with MSU about offering Actuary courses, in hope to jointly cultivate talents majoring in Actuary. The agreement also included initiating “2+2 program” among some outstanding students so they could experience campus life, internship in enterprises and social life in the background of Chinese and American cultural. The “GZHU-MSU Actuary Program” went smoothly since its inception in November 2014. Recently, MSU staff in charge of recruiting students interviewed GZHU students majoring in Actuary who applied for the “2+2 program” through remote video.
