GU Welcomes Freshmen of Grade 2012

Guangzhou University, September 11, 2012: The Freshman Convocation & Military Training Mobilization for students of Grade 2012 is held on campus. Altogether 6769 freshmen from 21 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipality as well as Hong Kong, Macau SAR and Taiwan will begin their first college lesson in military training.

The ceremony was chaired by Ms. Chen Shuang. And leaders of GU, including Yi Zuoyong, Yu Jianshe , Lai Weihua, Dong Hao, Yu Qicai, Chen Yongheng and Chen Shaomei, and leaders of the military training force attended the ceremony.

On behalf of all the faculty and students, President Yu Jianshe extends his warmest congratulations and welcome to the freshmen, and he also expressed his hearty respect and thankful to the military training force. He briefly introduced Guangzhou University and expressed his wishes and expectations to the freshmen. First, he wished the freshmen to be a person with responsibility and vision. He wishes the freshmen can reach beyond their grasp, keep up with the times and the development of the society, and become a person shouldering social responsibility. He also hopes that they can study hard in the next four years to be a person with ideals and vision. Second, he wished the freshmen to be a person with practical skills and innovative spirit. He wished freshmen to plug in the university life and active learning as soon as possible. He encouraged them to become well-educated talents with diligent study, thinking, enterprise and innovation, who will constantly identify and study thus solve problems. Third, he wished the freshmen to cultivate all-around capabilities while mastering professional knowledge. He called on the students to cherish the four years of study in GU, making full use of the study and research resources. Moreover, he encouraged the students to take part in various associations and activities that can enrich their campus life, foster team-work awareness and spirit, and facilitate their interpersonal relationships. Finally, President Yu wishes that all freshmen can gain precious experience in the military training.

On behalf of the faculty members, Ye Haosheng, Dean of School of Education, extended his warmest welcome to all freshmen. He hoped they can understand the ideal of university, which are aspiration and self-improvement and erudition. He believes they can learn to be a person with kindness and love and they will treasure the time of studying in GU. Chen Chang, a freshman majored in Food Science and Engineering from School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering spoke on behalf of the freshmen. He promised that all freshmen will bravely face challenges during military training and study hard in the next four years.

Upon entering the college, all freshmen will begin their two-week military training. Zhou Yun, director of military training addressed the assembly to boost the morale. He called on the students to respect the instructors, obey directions and be modest in learning. He wishes the military training can be a success with the help of the administrative departments and schools. Commander Zhang Zhengqiu speaks on behalf of the training instructors, stating that they will persist in scientific practice and strict management, and follow the principle of gradual improvement and teaching according to students’ aptitude and care for students.

And finally, Mr. Yi Zuoyong presented a flag to the military training army, indicating the start of military training of freshmen of Grade 2012.
