The 19th International Strategic Technology Alliance (ISTA) Annual General Meeting and the Forum of Science and Technology Innovation in Universities were held in Sun Yat-sen University from November 7th to November 8th. Zheng Detao, Secretary of the Party Committee of Sun Yat-sen University and Zhou Mutang , Deputy Inspector of Science and Technology Agency of Guangdong Province gave the opening speeches. Over 100 representatives including leaders, directors in charge of scientific research and scholars from 26 famous universities domestic and abroad attended the meeting. Our president Zou Cairong and the assistant of the president Zhou Yun were present at the meeting as specially invited guests.
At the meeting, President Zhou and the major leaders as well as the specialists from Beijing University, Tsinghua University, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Sun Yat-sen University, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and etc. jointly discussed the new thoughts of boosting industry -university-research cooperation development and promoting collaborative innovation in the transformation of scientific achievements, the management of school-run industries and regional industry-university innovation . President Zou also expressed his opinions on improving the institutionalization of scientific achievement transformation, promoting the scientific research and the industry management in universities as well as seeking for approaches of combining innovation and entrepreneurship education with the core task of talent cultivation. These opinions aroused resonance among the participants. As a special segment of the meeting, the representatives of Sabanci University in Turkey, Nanjing Medical University and Guangzhou University were invited to give presentations. Zhou Yun briefly introduced on behalf of President Zou the development of our university, focusing on the practices in industry-university-research cooperation.
It is known that the ISTA was jointly established in 1995 by fifteen universities including Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Beijing University, Tsinghua University, Zhejiang University, Fudan University, Southeast University and Nanjing University ,etc. in accordance with the long-term strategic object of “developing the country through science and education” with the support of National Education Board at that time, aiming at promoting the transformation of technological innovation and scientific achievements at international level. Currently it has 26 member universities including three abroad, namely Purdue University, Cardiff University and the University of Warwick, all its domestic members Project 985 universities. During the past nineteen years, ISTA has undertaken a large amount of national 863 projects, 973 projects and National Natural Science Fund projects. Through the integration of the technological advantages and talent resources of top universities domestic and abroad, it has greatly promoted the development and transformation of scientific research projects in the member universities.
