On 22nd March, the reading of ancient Chinese poems entitled as “Clouds Hidden in the Closed Eyes” was organized by the Confucius Institute at the University of Padova.
The poems for the reading event on the evening of 22nd March were mainly chosen from those describing the landscape scenery of China. The reading was conducted bilingually in Chinese and Italian. Renzo, a local poet and his reading partner Santa Boscolo read the poems in Italian, and Liu Zun, an overseas Chinese in Italy read the poems in Chinese. They recited famous poems such as “When Confucian reaches the top of Dongshan he finds the Lu State becomes small, and when he reaches the top of Taishan he finds the universe is small” written by Mencius and “Sitting Alone on Jingting Mountain”by Li Bai. The interpretation and recitation not only helped the audience understand the beauty of the Chinese mountains and rivers,but also aided them to understand the massive information concealed in the poems. After the reading of the ancient poems, one essay written by Feng Jicai, a very famous contemporary writer of China, entitled as the Calendar, was read. The recitation of the modern article guided the audience to think about the meaning life.
As was reported, the reading of the ancient poems describing the beautiful landscape of China that evening was a continued poetic recitation activity after the first reading in January 2014. The series of poem reading have opened a new window for the transmission of the Chinese culture in Padova, Italy.
