Guangzhou University and the University of Padova Sign Agreement on Joint-Supervision of PhD Students

On 19thNovember, President Rosario Rizzuto of the University of Padova paid an official visit to Guangzhou University. President Zou Cairong and Vice-President Xu Junzhong met the guests. Witnessed by Massimo Baldassarre, the Vice Consul-General of the Consulate General of the Republic of Italy in Guangzhou, the two presidents signed the agreement on Joint-Supervision of PhD students.

President Zou extended his warm welcome to President Rizzuto and the Italian delegates. He briefed the guests about the history and vision of Guangzhou University since its inception. He also shared with the guests the achievements GU obtained from the fields such as scientific research, discipline construction, teaching and staff development, international exchanges and cooperation. Through retrospecting the previous works between the two universities, President Zou emphasized that the two universities have faced with a critical time for development, it was high time for the two parties to conduct an all-round and in-depth cooperation. President Zou promised to facilitate collaborative scientific research and foster students and faculty exchanges between the two universities.

President Rizzuto introduced the University of Padova and showed his appreciation to the existing cooperation between the two universities. He stated that as one of the oldest universities in the world, the University of Padova must keep continuous progress in scientific research and internationalization to maintain a sustainable development. He stressed that the visit to China right after his inauguration delivering a strong and clear signal that the University of Padova accorded highly attention to develop relationship with world partners, particularly its Chinese counterparts. President Rizzuto also expressed his faith to see a promising future of cooperation between the two universities.

The two parties also discussed issues concerning academic exchanges and cooperation, works of the Confucius Institute in the University of Padova, students and faculty exchanges and joint education programs. Representatives with the competent departments of GU attended the meeting.
