First Association of Human Rights Law in China Established in GZHU

On 28 November, the inaugural meeting of the Human Rights Law Association of Guangzhou Law Society and the seminar on Human Rights Strategy of Advancing Rule of Law held in GZHU. Zhang Guolin, full-time Vice-Chairman and Secretary-General of Guangzhou Law Society as well as approximately 50 experts and scholars from all over the country attended the meeting.

The first Council of the Association of Human Rights Law of Guangzhou Law Society was elected at the meeting. Professor Chen Youwu, Deputy Dean of GZHU Human Rights Research Institute, was elected as the first Chairman. Professor Li Buyun, Dean of Human Rights Research Institute was chosen as the Honorary Chairman. The Secretariat was set up in GZHU Human Rights Research Institute. This meeting was co-hosted by GZHU Human Rights Research Institute, School of Law and Guangzhou Institute of Development Studies.

It is known that the association, as the first human rights law association in China, is another breakthrough of our university since the GZHU Human Rights Research Institute was established in 2004, published the first textbook on human rights authorized by Ministry of Education, was approval as the first provincial human rights research base in China in 2007 and one of the first national education and training bases on human rights in 2011. These achievements reflect our leading position nationwide in the discipline and organizational construction of Human Rights Law.
