GU Won the First Prize of “2013 Guangdong Science and Technology Prizes”

Recently, the Guangdong Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial Government held Guangdong Province Science and Technology Awards Conference and the Provincial Science and Technology Innovation Conference.Mr.Hu Chunhua, Members of the political bureau of the CPC central committee, Secretary of the Guangdong Provincial Party Committee, Governor Zhu Xiaodan and other leaders of Guangdong Province attended the meeting and presented the“2013 Guangdong Science and Technology Prizes” to representatives of the prize winners. “Guangzhou Tower Proactive and Passive Compound Tuning Control Technology Research Project”, jointly carried out byEarthquake Engineering Research & Test Center of Guangzhou University,Harbin Industrial University, Guangzhou New TV Tower Construction co., LTD and other units was awarded the first prize, marking new breakthroughs in Guangzhou University’s history.

Deputy Director Researcher Tan Ping of the Earthquake Engineering Research & Test Center was in charge of the project. In 2005, he came back to China to take over as the chief director of the project after his postdoctoral research in the United States. This project initiated a kind of linear motor driven two-level proactive and passive compound tuning control complete sets of key technology to address the key problems in structural seismic control technology for skyscrapers and tall structures. The anti-seismic technology has been applied successfully to the 600- meter-high Guangzhou tower, and also provides technical support for high-rise constructions and antenna masts of improving comfort and safety. This is also the world's first construction to adopt two levels of the compound control of initiative and passive structure. This is a world-class anti-seismic technology achievement providing an advanced, effective and economical way for the problems of wind resistance and anti-seismic technologies for skyscrapers.
