President Zou Sought for Cooperation with Canadian and American Universities

From November 16th to 21st , President Zou Cairong and his delegation initiated a series of visit toConcordiaCollege,SalemSatateUniversity,RiceUniversityand other institutes in the United States and Canada and sought for cooperation prospective.

Zou met President Shepard ofConcordiaCollegeon November 17th and 18th. Joint doctoral program highlighted this bilateral discussion. In his subsequent interaction with Prof. Asif, Dean of School of Engineering, Prof. Lynch, Dean of Department of Electric and Computer Science, Prof. Zhu Weiping and other experts, they all demonstrated great interests in these projects, though the cooperation framework and details still called for further implenishment.

SalemStateUniversityandPeabodyEssexMuseum were the next step on the 19th. President of Salem State University exchanged views extensively with Zou on issues like faculty & student exchange program, research cooperation. Overall cooperation contract was to be forged in the next spring. The two parties also shared information on “Sino-America trade at the early stage and new Sino-American Relationship Seminar” which was held through joint efforts every other year. Zou introduced the preparatory work of Guangzhou Thirteen Hongs Museum and our Research Center to Linda Ho, head ofPeabodyEssexMuseum. They also discussed on thechances of short-term academic visit for staffs and postgraduate students of theResearchCenter, literature support for the study of theThirteenHongsMuseumand the research study on early stage trade ofGuangzhouandSalem.

Rice University, located in Huston, was acclaimed as the Southern Harvard, ranking 31st in the U.S. On the 20th, Zou briefed President Leebron the profiles ofGuangzhouUniversity, and looked for collaboration in fields of doctoral cultivation, scientific research. Zou, on behalf of Guangzhou University, sincerely invited Leebron to visit our school when available and this invitation was happily accepted. With the company of Lin Boxian, Assistant of President, and Xu Baiyu, Consul General of Huston Consulate General of the PRC, President Zou and his delegation visited the Civil Engineering Institute and had a profound conversation with Mr.Fulton, Dean of the institute, on potential cooperative programs.

During the visit inCanada, President Zou and his delegation also met Secretary of Jiuding Associate (Excellent Asian Students Fund) Mr.Wang Hengbao and Mr.Liang Zhongjing. Mr.Liang promised to provide 500,000 RMB funds in supporting Art student and staff for study and training inCanadaand accepted the offer to be our Council Member. Zou also contacted some local experts with Chinese origin and inspired them to recommend outstanding doctor students to apply for our vacancies.
