Vice President of Padua University Visits GU

On April 24, President Zou Cairong held a meeting with Vice-president Lucia Regolin, Professor Denis Bastieri and China Affairs Director Kim Anne Barch from Padua University. Related scholars and representatives from International Exchanges and Cooperation Department and the School of International Education attended the meeting.

After extending a warm welcome to Ms. Regolin, President Zou introduced Guangzhou University on its history, construction of key disciplines and specialties, and the achievements in scientific research and education obtained in recent years. He also emphatically explained our thoughts and practice on scientific research and innovation, the building of the faculty, talents cultivation, community service, and the construction of a high-level university as well as the internationalization of higher education. In retrospect of the exchange and cooperation carried out between the two universities in recent years, President Zou expressed our gratitude for the contribution of Padua University in promoting Sino-Italian friendship. With the guidance of China’s new strategy of “One Belt and One Road”, our university expected further cooperation with Padua University in the exchange of teachers and students, expanding the areas of communication and joint education of innovative talents. President Zou also pointed out that, as a member of the European Union and a country with a long cultural and technological history, Italy had numerous universities with much experience in guiding students’ innovation and entrepreneurship, and Guangzhou University was willing to cooperate with Padua University on career development and innovative employment of graduates.

Vice-president of Padua University introduced the purpose of the visit and expressed the hope to cooperate and communicate with our university on the basis of mutual benefit after expressing her gratitude to our reception. She also responded positively to President Zou’s ideas and suggestions on university serving the society, joint educational programs of PhD students and cooperative incubating activities for graduate entrepreneurship.

It is known that the two universities will sign a cooperation agreement on joint education of PhD soon as an initiation of a deeper cooperation in relevant professional fields.
