Guangzhou University, April 1, 2013:The Guangzhou “Study Overseas” Program saw its promotion event held in GU on the morning of March 27 co-organized by the school’s Postgraduate Studies Department. Over 250 postgraduate students from Guangzhou Chinese Medicine University, Guangdong University of Technology as well as GU attended the event, in addition to officials from Guangzhou Education Bureau and Guangzhou Overseas Student Service and Management Center.
The program has a series of promotion events from March 22 to 27 in Beijing University, Sun Yet-san University, South China University of Technology and GU as well. When it was held in GU, there were a lot of interactive sessions of question and answer. Some overseas returnees of the program were invited to share their experience of studying abroad, including Huang Xuehua, a PhD candidate majoring in applied mathematics science in GU. She extended her gratitude to the sponsor of the program, Guangzhou Municipal Government, as well as to GU for their financial support and caring encouragement. She is delighted to say that the program offers her a great opportunity to broaden her academic horizon and enrich her knowledge of her major, so she is dedicated to making more contribution to the city’s development in return.
The program offers government-funded scholarship for students to study overseas, thus being one of the most important endeavors for Guangzhou city to attract and nurture talented human resources for further growth. It is also the only program so far to send students abroad and retain them after they are back, aiming to provide joint learning opportunities for PhD candidates. Since its operation two years ago, many students from local universities, colleges and institutes have been applying for the scholarship and some postgraduate students of GU have been selected.
