Guangzhou University, November 7, 2013:November 2 marked the annual International Food Festival in Wesleyan College where various food from around the world was presented. Even among the most delicious American Fried Chicken, Japanese Tamagoyaki, French Apple Pie and Greek Baklava, Chinese food stood out and was extremely popular for its delicate flavor and profound cultural connotation.
The International Food Festival is one of the most popular and influential cultural events in Wesleyan College. This year, lots of overseas students from 11 countries and regions took part in it. Apart from teachers and students in Wesleyan College, the participants included people from nearby communities. Everyone was absorbed in boisterousness and excitement.
During the celebration, overseas Chinese students and teachers from Confucius Institute served the most well-known Chinese food—dumplings. The dumplings were exquisitely made into 3 colors with vegetable juice—white, orange and green. Good in color, flavor and taste, trays of dumplings attracted long waiting lines. Everyone rushed to taste the dish with thin dough skin, fresh stuffing, delicious taste and unique shapes. After tasting and appreciating the cuisine, the participants listened to its introduction earnestly to have a deeper understanding about its cultural connotation—to ring out the Old Year and ring in the New Year. Chris, a restaurant manager in Wesleyan College, said that the International Food Festival has been held for 5 years, and this year’s celebration is particularly successful with the participation of Confucius Institute. He also spoke highly of Chinese food culture and thanked Confucius Institute for the great support.
