Guangzhou University, September 9, 2013 :On September 2nd, Professor Martin, Vice-Chancellor of Padua University, Italy, and his escorts paid a visit to Guangzhou University, warmly welcomed by our president Professor Yu Jianshe, vice president Xu Junzhongand head of the relevant departments and colleges. In the subsequent meeting, various issues such as the consolidation of the Confucius Institute, promotion of academic exchanges between the two universities and research cooperation, are deployed in-depth and the key areas and major direction of bi-lateral cooperation are further clarified.
Since the establishment of the Confucius Institute in Padua University in 2008, academic exchanges between the two universities, student and staff exchange and other activities progressed smoothly with remarkable results owing to this platform. Martin, the vice president commended highly for the efforts of Guangzhou University, and also envisaged confidently about the prospect of the operation of Confucius Institute.

The University of Padua is a premier Italian university and it is conventionally said to have been founded in 1222 , being one of oldest university in Europe. It is renowned for its academic atmosphere, with a number of prominent scientists like Galileo, and advanced achievement in the field of astronomy, physics, mathematics and other disciplines. The University of Padua is one of Italy’s leading universities and ranks in the first position in 2013, while its Institute of Economics and Management takes up the top position in all the recent ranking of Italian large universities in 8 consecutive years. In mid-July, the Summer Graduate Program initiated by Padua University was successfully launched in our university, which has won wide media coverage at all levels in Italy and enthusiastic response.
Professor Martin strives to further promote cooperation and exchanges between the two universities through this visit. In the future, the interoperable credits and other similar measures will be enforced to create more transnational learning opportunities and expand exchanges and cooperation between the two universities.
