The evening of March 15, 2014, in the four-star Hotel Biri at Padova, Italy, an event of Chinese culinary arts and cultural performance was organized by the Confucius Institute ( CI )at the University of Padova.
The Chinese cooking skills and performance of traditional Chinese arts provided by the CI in the hotel attracted people of Padova city and people of the nearby cities. They enjoyed the Chinese food, learned the Chinese cooking arts, and watched the Chinese cultural performance and exhibition. Prior to the activities, Prof. Picci, the Italian director of the CI, and Dr. Liu Huichun, the Chinese director of the CI, respectively delivered a speech to welcome the guests and introduce the purpose of the event of that evening.
The Chinese cultural evening in Hotel Biri started with the culinary arts. Chinese teachers of the CI taught the participants how to make Jiao Zi, Chun Juan, and La Mian. All details of the making and cooking procedures were exhibited in front of the participants, which helped them not just get to know the Chinese food, but also to learn how to cook it.
After the cooking skills and eating of the Chinese food, beautiful and graceful traditional Chinese arts were exhibited. The exhibition of the Chinese cultural elements, including readding of ancient Chinese poems, Chinese tea performance, Chinese Zither performance, folk Chinese dance brought a magnificent world of Chinese arts for the participants. Afterwards, a harmonious integration of Chinese culture and Italian culture occurred when the exchange students of Guangzhou University danced a folk Chinese dance and all the others started to dance the Chinese Yang Ge and the European dance.
