Invited by Guangzhou University--Wesleyan College American Culture Center, a delegation of professors from the College of Lake County, US gave a series of lectures on American culture and arts in our university on March 25.

Dr. Erick Rowe, an expert in architectural photographing, demonstrated how to create a visual illusion---a seemingly real but virtual world---by integrating two different spaces with Photoshop. Dr. Terry Dixon pieced together photo fragments of different sizes into images of people with the purpose of reflecting social problems in the US through the recreation of photos of people. Dr. Bob Lossmann showed his watercolor paintings of wasted ironware, in which the old American cars from the 1930s and 1950s became vivid and interesting. Dr. Roland Miller shared his photos taken in a deserted space launching site. These artistic and creative photos not only recorded the history, but also contributed to the analysis of American culture from a historical and social perspective. Dr. Hans Habeger presented American daily life with paintings of urban landscapes. He said that the best paintings were not the reproductions of photos, but those displaying painters’ creativity. Dr. David Bolton’s lecture was mainly about how to apply the printed patterns to pottery and how to acquire creativity from different images of daily life and nature. After the lectures, the Delegation gave 36 of their works to our school as gifts, which would be displayed in the American Culture Center (ACC).
Before the lectures, a seminar on differences in teaching and education approaches under different cultural background had been held and attended by the delegation and teachers and students from the School of Fine Art and Artistic Design.
As known, the lectures are the second part of the ACC’s 2014 symposium, and will be followed by more courses, art festivals and lectures for our teachers and students in order to enhance their knowledge of American culture.
