Confucius Institute at Wesleyan College Celebrates Chinese New Year

On February 13th, the Confucius Institute at Wesleyan College hosted the Chinese New Year Reception and 2015 CIWC Spring Festival Gala,celebrating the traditional Chinese New Year with teachers and students, overseas Chinese in Macon and local lovers of Chinese culture.

The reception was hosted in the cafeteria, which had been decorated with lanterns and other traditional Chinese ornaments. The guests were invited to enjoy different auspicious Chinese food, which were prepared withdelicate culinary artistic skillsand indicated Chinese culture. The food was highly regarded by the guests. The Director of Charter Academy appreciated it so much as to call it delicious twice. The board members of the Academy also praised the reception.

The highlight of the event was the Spring Festival Gala, which was co- hosted by the Vice President of Wesleyan College and the Dean of the Confucius Institute Dr. Jiang Xiaoping. An artistic feast featuring joyous lion dance and other Chinese folk dance as well as traditional Chinese instrument performance were given to the audience by students and faculties from the Institute and the College. Hearty rounds of applauses broke out in the hall when classic Chinese songs and a Chinese duet were sung by a Wesleyan professor, a Pakistan student, a Chinese teacher Han Dong and an overseas Chinese Lu Xiangjun respectively and when a Chinese fashion show was performed by the students including the Princess of the Cherry Blossom Festival and the Homecoming Queen of Wesleyan. Students from the Chinese class sent their New Year whishes in Chinese. The gala came to the end with a chorus of "The Same Song" and "The Unforgettable Night".

Vice president of Wesleyan college and other guests spoke highly of the event after the gala. The overseas Chinese students who had participated in the performance said that they felt proud being Chinese and introducing Chinese culture led by the Confucius Institute.
