CIWC Attends Asia-Pacific Educational Forum

On May 24, representatives of Confucius Institute at Wesleyan College (CIWC) attended the Asia-Pacific Educational Forum held by American Air Force Base Career Development Center, in which CIWC Teacher Han Dong gave a keynote speech.

In order to promote understanding and exchange in Asia-Pacific region, the U.S. State Council set every May as the Aisa-Pacific American Heritage Month. All the government agencies in the U.S. held various activities to deepen people's understanding towards cultural diversity and realize the goal of cultural fusion. Last year, CIWC held Aisan Pacific American Heritage Month activites for the first time. During the Month this year, the CI participated in the Asia-Pacific Carnival, Asia-Pacific Islands Carnival and this Asia-Pacific Educational Forum.

As the finale of the Asian Pacific American Hetritage Month this year, the Asia-Pacific Educational Forum has attracted large amount of officers, soldiers and support crew from the Air Base. In his speech, teacher Han Dong gave examples to show current China from ten aspects including medical treatment, social service, urban construction and traditional virtues, which was highly acclaimed by the audiences. After that, Ms. Vivian Siu, Director of Human Resource Department of the Air Base, discussed about Vietnamese history and cultural conflicts of Vietnamese-Americans as well as fusion. Mr. Capt Borl Um, Flight Commander, talked about the positive significance of mutual promotion of different cultures from the perspective of cross-cultural communication in the course of respect on multi-culture.

On May 21, at the invitation of Gloria Cha, founder of Music School in Macon, Teacher Han Dong and Liu Weihong went to the the Music School to organize Chinese traditional games, which demonstrated Chinese cultural charm. American citizens showed great concern and interest to Chinese culture and languages.
