Groundbreaking Ceremony Hosted for the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou)

On September 26th, the Groundbreaking Ceremony for the Major Projects Construction of Guangzhou Nansha Demonstration Zone for Comprehensive Cooperation between Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao was held in Nansha, Guangzhou. Two projects of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou) and the Pearl Science Park of Chinese Academy of Sciences were officially begun. Participants include Li Xi, Secretary of the Guangdong Provincial Party Committee, Lin Zhengyue, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Wang Zhimin, Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in Hong Kong, Hou Jianguo, Vice President of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Ma Xingrui, Governor of Guangdong Province, Du Yubo, Vice Chairman of the National People’s Congress Education and Culture Committee, Professor Qu Shoubing, Chairman of Guangzhou University Council, and GZHU Vice President Guo Xingpeng.

   

In December 2018, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology signed a tripartite agreement with the Guangzhou Municipal People's Government and Guangzhou University to jointly form the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou). This project will train talents in interdisciplinary fields to include data science, robotics and automation systems, biomedical and biomedical engineering, advanced materials, intelligent manufacturing and artificial intelligence. The project will also deepen cooperation in teaching and research between Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau.
