GZHU's Global Leap: 25 Disciplines Ranked, Civil Engineering Breaks into World Top 25

Guangzhou University (GZHU) has secured 25 places in the 2026 Global Ranking of Academic Subjects (GRAS), released by ShanghaiRanking—a result that underscores the university's rapidly rising global profile. One discipline entered the world's top 50, nine landed in the 101–200 bracket, and fifteen secured places in the 201–500 bracket. Globally, GZHU ranks 254th among all universities, 45th among mainland Chinese institutions, and 6th among universities in Guangdong Province.

The ranking covers 57 subjects across five broad fields and evaluates more than 3,000 universities worldwide. It draws on objective data from 42 international awards, 182 top journals, and 36 international academic organizations, employing five modules and nine indicators. In total, nearly 20,000 subject entries from over 2,000 universities across 96 countries and regions are published.

In recent years, GZHU has advanced the integrated development of education, science and technology, and talent. Leveraging opportunities from the national "Double First-Class" initiative and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area development, the university has optimized its disciplinary layout. With a focus on attaining "Double First-Class" status, it has built three tiers of disciplines and seven discipline clusters, promoted interdisciplinary integration, and strengthened research innovation and social service capacity—driving continuous improvement in its disciplinary strength.
