CIWC US President Awarded the Confucius Institute Outstanding Individual

The 13th Global Confucius Institute Conference was held in Chengdu from December 4 to 5. Dr. Vivia L. Fowler, U.S. President of Confucius Institute at Wesleyan College (CIWC), was awarded Confucius Institute Outstanding Individual.

Since 2013, President Fowler has strongly supported the work of CIWC. She has made outstanding contributions in deepening the cooperation between Chinese and American universities and promoting Chinese and American cultural exchanges. With the support of President Fowler, CIWC has organized a variety of Chinese cultural activities for local colleges, schools, and communities, so that local students and residents could learn and understand Chinese culture from a different perspective. During the period, President Fowler shared with the students and residents her personal experience of how she cooperated with China and managed the affairs of Confucius Institute. She has actually set up a banner in CIs all around the U.S. This award is not only the recognition of the personal contribution of Fowler, but also the praise of the cooperation between Guangzhou University and Wesleyan College.

            

During the Confucius Institute Conference, Tian Xuejun, Deputy Director of the Ministry of Education and Executive Director of the Council of Confucius Institute Headquarters, exchanged opinions with Fowler on the development of the Confucius Institute and ways to strengthen collegiate cooperation. Fowler said that CIWC will continue to promote Chinese language teaching and host Chinese cultural activities. Deputy Minister Tian Xuejun expressed his gratitude to Fowler for her constructive comments and said that China will create more opportunities for foreign people to understand the true value and role of the Confucius Institute, andConfucius Institute will also try its utmost to improve its teaching quality and work efficiency.

In the same period, the annual council meeting of the CIWC was successfully held. Dr. Qu Shaobing, Chairman of Guangzhou University Council and the Chinese Board of Directors; Dr. Vivian Fowler, member of the Board of Directors; Chinese and the U.S. Deans of Wesleyan College; and persons of  relevant departments concerned attended the annual meeting.
