The First BRICS Innovation Collaboration Forum on ICT and HPC Hosted in GU

GU Advanced Institute of Engineering Science for Intelligent Manufacturing Inaugurated

On April 25, sponsored by Department of International Cooperation, the Ministry of Science and Technology of the People’s Republic of China (MST of P.R.C) and co-sponsored by Guangdong Provincial Department of Science and Technology (PDST) as well as Guangzhou Science and Technology Innovation Commission, Guangzhou University (GU) organized the first BRICS Innovation Collaboration Forum on ICT and HPC. GU President Wei Minghai, Chen Linhao, Deputy Director of Department of International Cooperation, MST of P.R.C, Yang Jun, Deputy Director-general of Guangdong PDST and Zhang Jianhua, Deputy Secretary-general of Guangzhou Municipal Government attended and addressed the opening ceremony. GU Vice-president Zhang Qixue was the host.

The ceremony attracted top scholars and pace-setters of the business circle from BRICK nations including Prof. Li Bohu, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and an expert in computer simulation and intelligent cloud manufacturing, Professor Zhang Tongyi, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and a prestigious expert in material science and solid mechanics, Prof. Valery Makarov, Academician of Russian Academy of Sciences and a computer simulation expert in mathematical economics and socio-economic evolution, as well as Professor Wang Tong San, a member of the first Academic Divisions of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and an expert in quantitative economics and technology. They discussed the cutting-edge research and application of information technology in the field of scientific technology, intelligent manufacturing, space exploration, industry transformation and upgrading, such as artificial intelligence, big data and high performance computing as well as education and re-employment training. The two-day lasting forum has presented thirty outstanding academic lectures. The experts also visited National Supercomputing Center in Guangzhou as well as Guangzhou Science and Technology Industrial Park and Entrepreneurship Center.

The first BRICS Working Group Meeting and Innovation Collaboration Forum on ICT and HPC

The world in the 21st century has been connected via trade, transportation, migration, financial service, Internet of Things and cyberspace, economic integration and social networking in an unprecedented way. On one hand, the increasing connectivity of the world leads to increasing gap between the rich and the poor, trade friction, religious contradiction and conflict of national interests. On the other hand, the applications of high-performance computing, artificial intelligence and big data in substantial economy propels new industrial revolution. Collaboration of BRICS nations is an important cooperation mechanism among emerging developing countries. As the world experience an increasingly social and economic changing, it is more difficult to control the evolution. Under this circumstance, China, who takes up presidency of the BRIC countries in 2017, carries out Jaipur Declaration and Action Plan reached agreement in Jaipur, India last year. On April 23rd to 24th, the first BRICS Working Group Meeting and Innovation Collaboration Forum on ICT and HPC was held in Guangzhou Higher Education Mega Center, aiming to explore the advantages in artificial intelligence, big data technology, network security and high-performance computing. Under the framework of BRICS Cooperation in Scientific and Technological Innovation, BRICS nations have built up cooperation of BRICS characteristics to solve global challenging problems and a community with a common future. Through joint efforts, the first BRICS Working Group Meeting has established a long-term cooperation mechanism in the field of BRICS information technology and high performance computing. They also reached a consensus on building collaborative innovation and achievement transformation platforms, which laid a solid foundation for achieving substantive cooperative and innovative results in the coming years.

Opening Ceremony of GU Advanced Institute of Engineering Science for Intelligent Manufacturing: To build a worldwide first-class research platform for artificial intelligence, intelligent manufacturing and Internet technology

The forum was convened at the moment of GU constructing high-level university. During the "13th Five-Year" period, GU focused on developing the following seven research areas; intelligent manufacturing engineering, mobile data scientific projects, exploitation of underground resources and urban underground space in the Pearl River Delta city, Southern China geographical environment and city development, life sciences and human health, modern finance and modern service industry, culture and art of south of the Five Ridges. Guangzhou University strives to become a domestic first-class and internationally renowned high-level university with characteristics of disciplines, urban areas and internationalization within ten years.

In the afternoon of April 24th, GU Advanced Institute of Engineering Science for Intelligent Manufacturing of Guangzhou University was inaugurated in the first BRICS Working Group Meeting and Innovation Collaboration Forum on ICT and HPC. Professor Qu Shaobing, Head of University Council, GU President Wei Minghai, Vice-president Zhang Qixue and Chen Linhao, Deputy Director of Department of International Cooperation, MST of P.R.C, attended the opening ceremony.

The research institute will implement the Made in China in 2025 Strategy and Internet Plus issued by the State Council and build a world-class platform of artificial intelligence, intelligent manufacturing and Internet common technology.

The Advanced Institute promoted the interdisciplinary combinations of basic disciplines such as mathematics, information science, physics, mechanics, chemistry and life sciences with chemical and biological engineering, materials science and engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, computer science and technology and other engineering disciplines.

Research Institute and China National Machinery Industry Group and its own National Machine Intelligent Technology Co., Ltd. and China Academy of Electrical Science and Technology Co., Ltd. in our school to build "intelligent manufacturing cutting-edge technology joint research and development center" and "industrial products environmental adaptation of key national laboratory research and development Center ", focusing on a new generation of robots, smart appliances, new energy vehicles and other industrial products to carry out intelligent manufacturing technology demonstration applications.

Our university will work with relevant State Ministries and Commissions, Provincial, Municipal and District governments, as well as enterprises and other colleges and universities to actively create a new way of collaborative innovation on production, learning, research, politics, gold and Internet community. We will also strive to create a new environment for innovation which could be adapted to the development of current scientific development and "Artificial intelligence + Intelligent Manufacturing + Internet" in Higher Education Mega Center. This model, which is rooted in the development of strategic emerging industries, has attracted the broad interest of the participating experts, who expressed the hope that this could be used as a base for the construction of cooperation among BRICS nations in information technology and high performance computing.
