
The school of Tourism of Guangzhou University, located in a scenic spot of Guangzhou University Town, was established in May of 2002 under the agreement on cooperation between the Government of Guangzhou and the Education Department of France, with the main emphasis on tourism education and research. The school offers both undergraduate and postgraduate programs in two departments: the Department of Hospitality and Exhibition Management and the Department of Tourism Management, and provides courses in two areas of concentration: Sino-French Program and Internal Program.
The Sino-French Program is the only cooperative project of advanced tourism education between the Chinese government and the Education Department of France, supervised by the Chinese & French governments, and a council of 12 other business and education administrations such as: Guangdong Tourism Bureau, Guangzhou Tourism Bureau, Guangzhou Education Committee, Guangzhou University, Guangzhou Commerce & Trade Promotion Committee, Guang Zhi Lu Travel Service, Guangzhou Garden Hotel, Guangzhou Dongfang Hotel, the Education Department of France, the University of Angers, the University of Nice, Accor Services, Paris Business Circles, etc. The French government is to send a number of Professors and Specialists to help with the Academic study and research.
Students involved in the Sino-French program will get their school certificates issued not only by Guangzhou University but also by the University of Angers and the University of Nice. Excellent graduates can get their access to a postgraduate study for a professional master degree in France. As one of the most comprehensive tourism schools in China, the school of Tourism of Guangzhou University offers most professional tourism courses. Currently, the undergraduate coursers covers 8 subject areas, including: Hotel Management, Exhibition & Business Management, Exhibition & Business Tourism, Travel Agency Management, International Tourism & Tour Guides, Golf Management, Tourism & Property Management and Tour Scenic Spot Programming & Management, among which, the two courses of Exhibition & Business Tourism and Golf Management are opened to majors of tourism for the first time in China.
The school of Tourism of Guangzhou University ranks high among schools of the same kind, with 54 teaching staff in total¨C- 4 professors, 21 assistant professors, 10 phd or its candidates, and another 23 with master¡¯s degree and enrolls most undergraduates in tourism area. Progressive and successful, this is THE school for further education on tourism management in South China, and gives an active impetus to the development of tourism education and tourism industry in Guangzhou.
