The School of Biology and Chemical Engineering comprises five departments(the Department of Biology, the Department of Chmistry, the Department of Light Chemical Engineering, the Department of Biological Engineering, and the Department of Environmental Science) with a current staff of 125 and a student population of 1,460. Of its staff, there are six full professors, 51 associate professors and ten Ph.D holders. The School's courses of Zoology, Genetics and Organic Chimistry have been rated as provincial key courses. The Faculty is equipped with one field work base and one laboratory of municipal standing. ince 2000 its staff have undertaken more than ten key research projects supported by the State Natural Science Fund and the Natural Science Fund of Guangdong Province. Teachers of the School have been awarded 3 provincial and municipal prizes for excellence in teaching, and have had as many as 100 research papers published.
